These courses run on consecutive Tuesday’s from 7pm to 9pm.
Course Content & overview
This course will deliver a step by step process to becoming a stand-up comedian. A practical course designed to provide the tools and know-how for you to tap into your own comedy genius. Learn how to write and structure your own material and deliver it with confidence. Tap into positive body language and stage techniques which will enhance all future public speaking experiences. The first half of the class is theory based and the second half is dedicated to performance and feedback. There is advice on how to market yourself and a list of contacts to secure future gigs should you choose to work on the comedy circuit. At the end of the course you will have the opportunity to entertain a friendly audience in our showcase performance. Unlike other comedy courses, this opportunity is opened to all students and not reserved for selected students.
Concessions £200: unemployed and full time students will supply proof of status at the first class.

How to book for all courses
When the course fees have cleared you will receive an email confirming your place on your chosen course. Please note that a condition of being on the course is doing the homework. If you are booking a course as a gift, the voucher will be sent through email.
This course is rolled out once a year and runs on consecutive weekday’s for five weeks from 7pm to 9pm.
Course content and overview.
Brighton Comedy Course Advanced Stand up course is for people who have already completed the beginners course with BCC or who have experience of working on the comedy circuit and are serious about comedy.
There is regular support and guidance throughout the course, including practical exercises and tips on how to edit existing material and brainstorm new material. There is also the option of writing a whole new set from scratch. Students will work individually and as a team to build a polished comedy set. There will be gig analysis for those working on the circuit, what worked, what didn’t and why. How can we improve our sets. We will look at more complicated joke techniques and aim to incorporate them into our material. There is also a full class on compering, with everything you need to know to run your own gig.
There will be advice on how to market yourself and a list of contacts to secure future gigs on the comedy circuit in Brighton, London and further afield. At the end of the course there will be the opportunity to relive the graduation gig with the showcase performance.
As in the beginners week course, writing material for homework is a must and an updated material diary is highly recommended.

Advanced Course Dates 2018

This 8 week course is ideal for distance learning. Start and completion dates are flexible though regular slots are beneficial to progress, so encouraged when possible. Every week the classes are sent by email. The content includes comedy theory and comedy exercises. Each week there will be homework set. This will include a short piece of stand up performance from you by video or audio and any other written homework tasks. There is constructive feedback every week on your homework from your tutor. On week 6, your material will be edited and ideas will be given on how to improve it. The course also includes two one hour sessions by phone or Skype during the course.

Optional Skype sessions are available for £50 per hour.
There’s much more procrastination from our writing learners than our comedy learners. If you want to come on a creative writing course then please do go ahead and book. These courses will go ahead with a minimum of 8 solid bookings (not enquiries.) If for any reason the course is not filled, a full refund will be issued within 5 days of course date.

Course Content: Over the six week course we will look at the basics of character, plot and dialogue. We will discover how to produce a character, bring them to life and make them memorable. We will also look at how to plot fiction looking at methods of planning, mind maps, story boards, and chapter breakdowns. There will be a number of writing exercises where you will have the opportunity to experiment with character and plot in different forms of writing; short stories, flash fiction and as part of a novel. Week 5 & 6 will be a introduction to writing a novel.
